Women's Club Mission Statement: Greater Federation of Women's Club Illinois is an organization with international affiliation dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. Our local Princeville Women's Club was established 1957; Elizabeth Stewart was our first president. Other highlights in GFWC history. The General Federation of Women's Clubs was formed in 1890. The author of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" served as a President of the Massachusetts Federation of Women's Clubs. GFWC "Women's Crusade for Seat Belts" program resulted in the installation of more than one million seat belts in one year - 1961. Was instrumental in getting the white lines painted on the edge of the roads, that helps the driver see where the edge of the road is when it's foggy or when its dark at night. GFWC members contributed $180,000 for a fully-equipped ambulance for use by the New York Fire Department in response to the loss of equipment suffered during the terrorist attacks on the day we won't forget September 11, 2001 and that ambulance has the GFWC - Unity in Diversity - logo on it. We even have a stamp that was issued in 1965. Locally, the Princeville Women's Club started the Pre-K class in Princeville in 1950's. This is a short list of accomplishments that Greater Federal Women's Club since 1890!Today the Women's Club continues a great tradition in the town of Princeville To raise money we hold an annual bake sale and host Annual Christmas Tour of local Homes to raise money for scholarships. When you come right down to it, we work hard together to raise money to give it to those who need a hand up, and we have a great time doing it!
